How to connect your Sony Ericsson M600i with your GMail account (POP)
This isn’t as hard as it seems, if you follow this step-by-step.
1. Upgrade the firmware in your M600i if you can’t get your machine going by following the steps after this one; my upgrade solved my problems, as it added functions required.
note: upgrading your firmware erases everything in your phone. Backup beforehand.
2. I used these settings to figure out what was up. To simplify things, you need to create a new e-mail account through the messaging-part of your M600i. After that, you configure the three following parts:
Basic
account name: [a name you decide]
your name: [your actual name, e.g. Niklas Pivic]
email address: [e@mail.nu]
connection type: POP3
Inbox
incoming server address: pop.gmail.com
username: user@gmail.com
password: [yourpassword]
download restrictions: no restrictions
Do note the importance of no restrictions: I remember having read a Google article saying GMail cannot handle requests from e-mail clients asking to merely download the “header” of an e-mail, so there you go.
Outbox
outgoing server address: smtp.gmail.com
check "Use SMTP authentication"
check "Use Inbox login details"
3. Now, you’re almost done. Click “More” on the lower, right-hand side of the screen and pick “Advanced”.
Here, you see two tabs:
Incoming
secure connection: SSL
incoming mail port: 995
leave "Secure password authentication" unchecked
Outgoing
secure connection: TLS
outgoing mail port: 587
check the box marked "use MIME encoding" (I did, anyway)
That should do it, go!

Hello, Henry. Thanks for the head-up, but the problem is that Zyb currently have forgotten the path to the server database for the Sony Ericsson M600i; I have notified them of this, and otherwise, Zyb seems to be a nice service.

Great phone M600i, but BEWARE!!!
I have had this phone for 3 months now. The touchscreen died – no scratches, dents or shocks – this is just to explain that it failed unexpectedly.
The repair costs are staggering – 120-150 Euros for the touchscreen replacement (which, according to the service guys are known to fail).
My warranty was invalidated because they claim that the TS was wetted!!! (as in I had a sweaty finger???) – there are 3 virtual buttons that can be pressed with the finger when handling calls.
Therefore, I am now looking at spending 150 for a phone that is 3 mo old. I find this unacceptable. This never happened to me with Nokias or Blackberries.
My bottom line – while the device was OK while it worked, I will certainly not go to SE again when I look for a business phone.

Hi Niklas,
Your info on connecting m600i with gmail (POP3) was excellent. I am now able to send mails from my phone. Just wanted to know how to activate the pushmail function so that the emails sent to me also land in my phone.

It works very well and is much easier to use than mobile web access. Received email remains in your GMail account. Furthermore, if you use the GMail SMTP (smtp.googlemail.com) to send email, your sent email will also end up in your GMail ‘Sent Mail’ folder.

Hey Stefan B, the same thing happened to my M600i. I was lucky that I had only had the phone in 2 weeks, so it went for repair and they actually changed everything inside the phone! So the screen problem must be very serious. It’s just sad that you have to pay that much, because it is such a nice phone.

I have bought my phone on e-bay and tried to use it with 3 Mobile SIM Card (UK). Unfortunately these bastards block me from using my email, because I can’t get either e-mail or IM+ to work…I guess I’ll just wait till my contract finishes and throw that network as far as it’s possible or maybe someone knows the solution?
